What is Hyperhidrosis Treatment at Dr Sonya Williams?
At Dr Sonya Williams, our clinical approach to managing primary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) involves the administration of targeted therapeutic injections to achieve localised physiological symptom reduction. This medical intervention is indicated for patients experiencing excessive eccrine sweat production that interferes with daily functioning, designed to systematically decrease moisture production in targeted anatomical areas such as the axillae (underarms). To ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance, a formal, face-to-face consultation is mandatory to determine clinical suitability, as the treatment protocol involves the administration of prescription-only medication.
How Hyperhidrosis Treatment Works
This clinical procedure utilises a specialised, prescription-only injectable formulation to precisely target the localised neuroglandular junction responsible for sweat production. When administered at Dr Sonya Williams via a series of shallow intradermal (skin-surface) injections into the affected area, the treatment works by temporarily blocking the release of the primary chemical messenger that signals the eccrine sweat glands to secrete fluid. By interrupting this specific chemical pathway, the overactive physiological response is temporarily suspended. This ensures that excessive sweating is subtly and safely managed in the targeted zone, without altering the body's global thermoregulation (natural temperature control).
What Hyperhidrosis Treatment Can Address
Our medical treatments at Dr Sonya Williams are designed to help address and manage the physiological and psychological symptoms of excessive sweating by reducing the impact of:
Severe axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) unresponsive to clinical-strength antiperspirants.
Discomfort, skin irritation, and chafing are caused by prolonged localised moisture.
Disruption of daily activities, workplace performance, and clothing choices due to visible sweat staining.
Secondary psychological distress and self-consciousness are associated with uncontrolled sweating.

To optimise your clinical outcome and support the healing process, we advise following these guidelines after your treatment at Dr Sonya Williams:
Avoid applying deodorant, antiperspirant, or perfumed products to the treated area for at least 24 hours to prevent infection and irritation.
Avoid strenuous physical exercise, heavy lifting, and activities causing friction in the treated zone for 48 hours.
Avoid exposure to extreme heat, including hot baths, saunas, steam rooms, and direct UV light, for 48 hours.
Keep the area clean and dry, and avoid rubbing or vigorously massaging the injection sites for 24 hours.
-
No, the therapeutic effects are not permanent. Because the body naturally metabolises the purified protein over time, the localised neuromuscular blockade gradually wears off, and normal glandular function resumes. Typical results last up to 6 to 7 months, after which ongoing maintenance treatments are required to sustain symptom suppression.

Every effort is made to ensure your comfort at Dr Sonya Williams. The procedure involves multiple small, shallow intradermal injections using an ultra-fine needle across a grid-like pattern in the targeted area. While you may experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation during each injection, the discomfort is brief, localised, and generally well-tolerated.

Downtime is minimal, with most patients able to return to their normal daily activities immediately following the session. You may experience mild localised swelling, erythema (redness), or slight tenderness at the injection sites, which typically resolve within a few hours up to 24 hours. Patients are advised to avoid intense exercise and friction in the treated area immediately following the procedure.

When administered by a qualified medical professional, this localised treatment has an established safety profile for the management of focal hyperhidrosis. However, as with any clinical injectable procedure, there are potential risks such as temporary bruising, localised compensatory sweating in untreated areas, or mild transient flu-like symptoms. All potential risks and your complete medical history will be thoroughly discussed prior to any clinical intervention.
